The cook at my Upanayanam

As a boy, my Upanayanam (thread ceremony) was planned. A couple of Mamis (aunties) were hired to make snacks. We were living in a 340 sq ft flat. I was eating my lunch some distance away.

I was out of a side-dish. "Amma, thottuka." "(Mother, a side-dish)."

The Mami puts out her hand towards me. "Intha, enna thottuko da.", meaning "Here, touch me". Thottuka can mean a side-dish, or literally, something to touch.

I just smile & don't respond. She then continues: "Ennada, kizhavia irukka nu ninaikkiraiya? Kumari ponnu thaan venuma?" meaning: "Are you not accepting the offer because I'm old? Are you looking only for young girls?"
